As a result, differences in the quality and availability of care for different populations have drawn more attention. A branch of economics known as “healthcare economics” (HCE) studies how economic policies affect a society’s capacity to meet the requirements of its citizens in terms of maintaining and enhancing their health. The goal of HCE is to lower healthcare service costs without sacrificing quality.
The purpose of this assessment is to clarify a financial problem in healthcare that Vila HealthSystem, Dallas, is facing. The assessment will also look at how the healthcare crisis is affecting a specific group of people or society as a whole. In addition, this essay will clarify how the healthcare economic crisis affects my colleagues, my linked institution, and my professional responsibilities (Ahmed et al., 2020). At Vila Health Dallas, I work as a senior registered nurse. The most distinguished hospital in the area is staffed by the most skilled doctors. There are six off-campus emergency rooms and forty-six urgent care locations. It also employs 5000 nurses and 4000 physicians. Vila Health, Dallas, has faced a number of challenges during the last seven months that have negatively impacted its financial situation.
Dallas, a city in the United States, is home to a diverse population that represents a wide range of ethnicities, beliefs, and lifestyles (Knapp & Wong, 2020). The population is composed of 57.75% white people, 0.5% American Indians, 42% Hispanics, 3.5% Asians, and 24.3% African Americans. Vila Health Dallas is unable to adequately serve the varied community of Dallas because it lacks personnel who are culturally competent (Akhrorjon Nuriddinov, 2023).
The patients experience avoidable medication errors due to language limitations. It has diminished Vila Health’s credibility and raised the risk of readmissions. Vila Health’s finances have suffered greatly as patients leave the hospital in search of alternative treatment options. Furthermore, Vila Health Dallas is now facing a shortage of nursing staff, which means that employees are being asked to work past their assigned shift hours (AlJaberi et al., 2020). They are experiencing higher levels of worry and sadness as a result of their increased workload.
A considerable percentage of the employees are presently looking for other work possibilities. Vila Health’s financial performance has been greatly impacted by the increase in its turnover rate. All things considered, Vila Health is currently facing a high incidence of nurse turnover, a large readmission rate, and a reduction in its patientele. Vila Health’s revenue has been severely impacted by the three issues (Snoswell et al., 2020).
Dallas is home to a wide variety of ethnicities and religions, making it one of the most diverse cities in the country. Dallas was ranked among the top five most diverse cities in the US in 2019 and showed a noteworthy blend of socioeconomic and cultural variety. According to Foley and Mirazón Lahr (2019), there are 24.3% African Americans, 57.75% Whites, 0.5% American Indians, 42% Hispanics, and 3.5% Asians. Given the wide range of cultural backgrounds among its patients, Vila Health Dallas staff members must possess cultural competence in order to better meet their requirements (Chen et al., 2021).
The research that is now available suggests that a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:14 may lead to burnout in nurses and an increase in avoidable medical errors. Furthermore, the data points to the possibility that a high nurse-to-patient ratio could put patients at risk for infections, pressure ulcers, and falls. The ideal nurse-to-patient ratio is suggested to be 1:2. Additionally, a hospital’s anticipated expenses for a single patient readmission within thirty days of discharge are $15,200. Vila Health Dallas must thus take strong action to improve its operating procedures and reduce all the variables that have a negative impact on its income and patients’ health (Rudnicka et al., 2020).
